Villajoyosa
Villajoyosa, the capital of the Marina Baixa district, is a town which
is related with the sea in all of its aspects. Fishing is one of its
main industries; another industry, chocolate, also proceeds from over
the sea; the sea represents a growing tourist activity; and the town
also has a harbour. An obligatory visit is to the Vila Vella, the
Old Town, with is coloured house "hanging" over the river
and its monumental surrounding walls from the 14th century.
Villajoyosa has 3.5 km of beaches, notable among which are the Centre
beach and El Parais, with the Blue Flag award. The most outstanding
of Villajoyosa's festivals is a unique event: the disembarkation of
the Moors, which has celebrated on the early morning of 28th July
for over 200 years.
