PEÑÍSCOLA |
|
|
Peñiscola stands on
a rocky headland projecting out towards the sea, that gives it a very
striking appearance. It is a delight to enter the walled town and
to stroll around its deep stepped streets. Of particular interest
is its grandiose castle, the home in the 15th century the antipope
Benedict XIII: its treasures include magnificent pieces in gold and
silver.
Peñiscola is an important tourism centre, althoug fishing continues
to play a significant role, as the town has one of the most active
fleets in the area. Peñiscola offers a wide variety of atmospheres:
lively nightlife centres, quiet terraces by the sea, and typical bars
in the old town.
